This is this mk3's second time back at Reflex Tuning. After it's first visit, it left with a fully built 1.8T swap using the Reflex Tuning 1.8T swap kit. The owner came back with the idea of building a mk3 Jetta coupe. VW never made a Jetta coupe, but one can be fabricated by using the sides and doors off of the two door Golf (gti) and grafting them onto the Jetta. Along with the coupe fabrication, the owner also wanted to shave the trunk, wiper nozzles, roof antenna, and tail light seems, along with smoothing out the intercooler piping welds.
This is what the car used to look like....two doors too many

It has been a long weekend but the coupe is just about done. The owner and his friend lent a helping hand in putting the car back together before the long drive up the east coast.

Working and having a good time :-)

New textured moldings...mmmmmmm

Everyone hanging out having a great time

If you are wondering what is going on with the sideskirts, you will have to stay tuned.
UPDATE: 10/20/07 1:00pm
At this point the coupe is 95% finished. There are a few minor touches that it will receive in a few weeks. Overall the project came out better then planned. Stay updated for mysterious surprise soon to come

Update: 12/28/07
The jetta coupe was dropped off yesterday to receive some final touches.

First order of business was to make the K2 Jetta seats into K2 GTI seats. That meant taking apart the seat and swapping the K2 fabric onto a seat backing that has the flip forward mechanisms.

Swapping the power doors over.

Update: 3/3/08 7:00pm
We made a little bit of progress on the coupe over the weekend. We took out the old european radiator support because the shop who put it in previously installed it incorrectly. As a result the entire front end of the car was sagging. So we purchased a new mk3 european radiator support and installed it the correct way.

The wrong way...cut with blocks of wood

The correct way

Next we started fabricating the C pillars. In order to make them work you need cut, glue, and mold the Jetta and GTI C pillars together. Once completed the C pillars will be wrapped in black fabric to match the rest of the interior.

Update: 4/8/08 11:00pm
The owner of the coupe came by this weekend and we swapped on the Type A's. They really look awesome with the new flares.

Update: 4/28/08 10:00am
The flares are on and the car is almost complete. Still have to chase up a few loose ends, but we are very pleased with how the car came out. We pulled an all nighter to get the car complete for the New England Dustoff. Here are some pics from the event.
