Parts needed when using Reflex Tuning's 1.8T swap kit

This is a detailed list of parts needed when using Reflex Tuning's 1.8T swap kit. We suggest using an internal water pump engine for the swap (any engine code except AEB). However, the AEB engine may be used, see the list bellow. If you have any questions and are interested in doing the swap, feel free to contact us.

Using an AEB motor

  • ABA Accessory bracket and all accessories
  • ABA water pump and housing
  • ABA power steering pump
  • ABA oil filter housing
  • AEB crank pulley
  • Mk3 2L throttle body (specific to your OBD)
  • Mk3 vr6 throttle cable
  • Mk3 vr6 radiator (optional to the 2L radiator) it makes the swap a lot easier if you use the vr radiator, you can use the 2.0L one if you want to
  • Stock 3 bar fuel pressure regulator
  • MK3 VR6 MAF

Using a Mk4 Internal Water pump engine (every engine but AEB)

  • 1.8T accessory bracket
  • Mk3 2L throttle body (specific to your OBD)
  • Alternator - We suggest using the mk3 alternator. To use the mk4 alternator, you must change the mk3 alternator plug to the mk4 plug for the exciter wire.
  • AC compressor - Use the mk3 ac compressor. You have to "modify/bend" the mk3 lines to clear the oil filter and oil cooler. On a G60, you use the G60 ac compressor
  • Power steering pump - Use the mk3 power steering pump. You have to use a mk3 vr6 water pump pulley and bolt it onto the 2L power steering pump. Or you can use the mk4 power steering pump with the mk4 power steering pump pulley. If you use the mk4 power steering pump you have to clearance the front engine cross member a little.
  • Mk3 vr6 throttle cable
  • Radiator (optional) - We suggest using the mk3 Vr6 radiator which makes the swap a lot easier, However you can use the 2.0L radiator if you wish
  • Stock 3 bar fuel pressure regulator
  • MK3 VR6 MAF

Transmission

You may use your stock mk2/mk3 020 transmission. However, if you do use the 020 we highly recommend a performance clutch and a bolt kit. The stock 020 clutch can not handle much power, and the clutch will slip even under low boost.

We recommend to anyone that has done the 1.8T swap to switch to a four cylinder 02A transmission, not to be confused with the VR6 02A.. The 02A can be found on the Corrado g60 or the 16v Passat. Both 02A transmissions have different gearing, so depending on your driving taste, there are pros and cons for each. Listed below is a detailed list of what is needed to complete an 02A swap.

Parts needed for a four cylinder 02A transmission swap

  • 02A trans 4cyl
  • VR6/G60/passat 16v clutch
  • G60 or 16v flywheel
  • MK3 VR6/TDi slave
  • MK3 VR6/TDi clutch master
  • MK3 TDI front motor mount bracket (allow over 1 month if you order it from the dealer)
  • 02A rear trans mount
  • The line from the brake reservoir to the slave from an MK3 VR6/TDI
  • Line between master and slave
  • MK3 VR6/TDi cable shift box
  • Clip for the 2.0L clutch pedal to except the master (usually comes on the new master)
  • G60/Passat 16v starter and bolts

TheMK3 shift cable ends may be different that one the G60/Passat 16v 02a, so you may want to get a shift tower from an MK3 VR6 and swap that into the 4cyl 02A trans (2 bolts, really easy), just make sure you swap the "VW" cover plate on the bottom of the trans too when you swap to an MK3 VR6 shift tower, or it won't fit into the earlier 4cyl case
